Texas Hold’em Strategy for Pocket Ace Seven UnSuited Hand
Let us assume that a player is participating in the Texas Hold’em Poker tournament and is sitting in the seat number 7, 8 player table, in his favorite online poker room. In addition, the blinds are in the seat number 4 and seat number 5. Let us consider that the player has been playing for about an hour and hence he has become the chip leader at the table with 2000 chips. As a part of the assumption, in the overall Texas Hold’em tournament the player is at the fourth place, which explains that he is at a good position. In addition, players who are seated in seat numbers 2, 4, 5 and 6 are left with around 500 chips or less.
In this juncture, let us assume that the player gets an Ace of Diamonds and a seven of Hearts at the pocket hand. The player who is seated in the previous position of our player is winding up by calling the ‘big blind’ bet. Now, our player has to either call or raise a bet or fold.
However, it is advisable to fold the hands. This is primarily because a seven or Ace unsuited hand is not a strong pocket hand. The probability of winning this hand is only 10.2%, and mathematically it stands in the 41st position among the other 169 pocket hands. Besides, based on the player’s seating position, it is vivid that the player has no other option than fold. This is mainly because he has no idea about what other players’ on the table have. The player may even think of placing a bet of at least 500 chips, thinking that he can clear 4 of the other players, from the table. However, this proves to be unwise and hence must be avoided. It is because co-players may have some average hands which they may have to use, due to the fear of losing the game. When this happens our players have to call large raise.
Needless to mention, there are three other players who are having more than 500 chips left. In this case, if the player makes a bet with 500 or more chips, then there is an adequate chance of the player losing the hand. As a result, the player will have to give up to some other player by which, the player’s betting strength will be weakened in the following future hands.
Hence, it can be presumed that folding is the best strategy for Pocket Ace Seven UnSuited Hand, rather than to call or raise a bet. However, it is better to play an Ace or seven unsuited, when the blinds are high and only few players are remaining on the table.
